Empower Students to Thrive in an Evolving World

Picture
By creating an engaging learning environment using a student-centered/teacher facilitated approach, our programs empower students to develop in-demand skills to pursue rewarding careers, solve important challenges, and contribute to global progress.  Students not only learn technical skills, but also learn to solve problems, think critically and creatively, communicate, and collaborate.

We will do everything we can to ensure students leave us with the ability to face challenges undaunted, embrace failure as an opportunity to grow and above all see themselves as a leader with vision and purpose.

Balanced Assessment

Assessments are a powerful way to evaluate and strengthen student learning.

Traditional Assessments

Tests & Quizzes
Assessments provide meaningful feedback to students, teachers, and PLTW. They help students understand what they are doing well and what they need help with, give teachers the information they need to guide each student, and provide PLTW with information that helps us continuously update and improve our programs.
Assessments can either be either:
Formative - evaluation of progress with immediate feedback to inform teaching & learning.
Summative - evaluation of student learning at the end of a learning period.

The Balanced Approach

Formative & Summative
Assessment is an ongoing activity that provides students with a variety of opportunities to demonstrate their knowledge and skills, which allows teachers to monitor student progress and modify instruction accordingly.
This can be through activities, projects, and problems; maintaining logs, notebooks, and portfolios that undergo assessment; and evaluating work through a range of tools, such as performance rubrics and reflective questioning, to deepen and expand their knowledge and skills.

Recognition & Credentials
In a rapidly changing economy, students with in-demand, transportable skills – including problem solving, critical and creative thinking, collaboration, communication, and ethical reasoning – are most likely to thrive throughout their education and careers.
Using innovative items, the new EoC Assessment measures a broader range of knowledge, skills, and cognitive abilities, and delivers a dynamic experience that resembles the hands-on learning context of the PLTW classroom.

Results with Currency

High school students who take the new EoC Assessment will receive a detailed score report – beginning in the 2018-19 school year – that highlights their subject-matter knowledge and mastery of in-demand, transportable skills. Students can use their test results to bolster college applications or resumes or can send their score report directly to higher education institutions and employers, who may use it for admissions, scholarships, dual credit opportunities, campus experiences, internships, apprenticeships, industry certifications, and more.
